What makes East Aurora interesting is all the people that have lived in it.
Many types of people have had a close connection to the town: owners of billion-dollar companies, presidents, professional athletes, inventors, researchers, and famous artists. East Aurora may soon be able to add another profession to the list; music mogul.
Joel Zandrowicz, a graduate of East Aurora High School, has proven himself to be an ambitious young entrepreneur. Since he moved from East Aurora, he has been spreading his business through the airwaves in the rapidly growing city of Charlotte, N.C.
What Joel does down south is promote artists on his record label-Nu Vizion Entertainment-negotiating with bar and nightclub owners for upcoming gigs and steady venues. Promoting is something he says comes second nature.
"It is not hard for me to get gigs for people," says Zandrowicz, the co-chief executive officer of Nu Vizion and also the company's Web designer. "I know when to be a 24-year-old, and I know when to be a professional. I go to clubs with a media packet, showing the club owners what my artists have done, with photos and a CD."
Zandrowicz, who bears the nicknames "Mr. Network," has met with much success. Throughout the life of his business, he has developed steady gigs playing for packed nightclubs and pre-game shows for the city's semi-professional hockey team.
Nu Vizion is a growing company. Zandrowicz says it is an independent record label, which can make CDs and work on developing artists and their skills. Since 2005, Zandrowicz and crew have released an album and a couple of hit singles, in addition to the citywide promotion.
"We are getting a following," said Zandrowicz, while driving in his car, adorned with company graphics, his Web address, and a large banner that reads, "Support Charlotte Hip-Hop." "Our biggest track came from our artist DRU. It's called 'Part the Clouds.' It was played at a lot of clubs in the city."
Thanks to the Internet, startup companies like Nu Vizion Entertainment, which do not have the vast bankroll of a Sony or Capitol Records, can make their music available around the nation.
"We sell our products on CD Baby and iTunes," explained Zandrowicz. "We have a couple of new singles out there, 'Got it Good' and 'Lost Dream.' We have had good reactions so far."
Zandrowicz, who started Nu Vizion with a friend, is a visionary. His aspirations are to build up Nu Vizion, to get new artists, more CDs, and more venues.
"My hope for the future," he says, "is to get Nu Vizion going to the point where I have multiple artists that I can promote around Charlotte. I'd like to have multiple gigs, artists and venues."
With all the ideas and hard work Zandrowicz puts into the business, it may not be long before he is on top of the music world.
